My visual communications hobby became a bit more serious in 2010 when ABC asked me to provide them with my official company information to list on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition website for the projects I did on the Season 8 season premiere show.
Since then, Poppy Copy & Design is fortunate to be able to concentrate on working with eco-minded, happy-cultivating, health/mind/body/spirit/heart-centered businesses and non-profits in Baltimore and beyond.
I am a Baltimore native who enjoys getting lost in the creative process while designing. My first job in a sign shop gave me the bug for visual communications. I enjoyed the satisfaction I got from seeing a project through from beginning to end in a relatively short time frame and decided to teach myself the applications and techniques needed for graphic design. I took a few courses at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), but for the most part, I learned through figuring out how to make graphic ideas come to life electronically.
I’ve been a sign maker, graphic designer, technical writer, communications specialist, director of creative services, and all-around marketing professional.
Things I do to stay on my creative tippy-toes include taking close looks at natural things (like bugs and plants), going for walks and practicing yoga. I also like to keep nimble by entering design contests and finding alternative uses for ordinary objects.
